See the Nigerian Boy and Girl that won 100m trials in Morocco

Arowolo Emmanuel and Rosemary Chukwuma on Tuesday won the 100m events for men and women at the National Open Trials organised by the Athletics Federation of Nigeria for the 12th African Games scheduled for Rabat, Morocco.

Emmanuel won in 10.43secs while Alaba Akintola and Enoch Adegoke clocked 10.48secs to finish second and third respectively on the tracks of the Moshood Abiola National Stadium, Abuja .

Chukwuma won the women’s 100m in 11.53secs, defeating Joy Udo-Gabriel (11.56secs) and Blessing Ogundiran (11.64secs), who emerged second and third respectively.

Best Erhire jumped a new personal best of 2.10m to win the men’s high jump on his second attempt.

According to the Technical Director of the AFN, Sunday Adeleye, 1200 entries were received, while only 48 would be selected for the competition, which is expected to hold between August 19 and 31.

He described the performance of the athletes as “impressive”, urging them to shun drugs.

He said, “The performance of our athletes has been brilliant. We are impressed. With what we have, even South Africa is in panic now. If you look at 100m and 200m in Africa, Nigeria is very comfortable.”
